In addition to creating an educational resource for primary and secondary students, the project also presented an opportunity to involve UCF Digital Media graduate students in an applied project that developed both 3D modeling and research skills. Students in a Directed Research class worked with me and with graduate student Traci Yeager (who tutored the students in 3D modeling) to develop new models for the game in the second phase of development, in an effort to add increased historical accuracy to the game environment and the characters in it. Students learned about the numerous elements that go into making (or modding) a video game. Aside from programming and 3D modeling, they learned, there are a number of other, equally important tasks, especially the research behind the game that is necessary when based on historical materials.
