NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University swimming and diving team will make its 2009-10 debut on Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Green Wave take on cross-town rival University of New Orleans at noon at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium.

While Hagar Elgendy’s days as a member of the Tulane University swimming and diving team have come to an end, her time in the pool is far from over. The soon-to-be graduate has her eye on a new goal — representing her country in the Olympic games.

In the season-opener at LSU, 11 Green Wave individual posted second-place finishes and the squad finished 2-3 in eight events. Freshman was the first Tulane swimmer to post a runner-up finish, touching the wall at 10:36.62 in the 1000 free. From there, sophomore and junior were second and third in the 200 free with times of 1:55.32 and 1:55.79, respectively.
There are people who seem as though they can do it all, and then there are people who really do. Graduating senior Allie Evans not only has balanced the hectic schedule of an athlete on the Tulane University swimming and diving team with a public health workload, but she also is dedicated to community work.

“This is a tremendous honor for our program and is perhaps our proudest achievement to date,” Tulane head swimming and diving coach Lena Guarriello said. The team is starting its third year back in action after being suspended after Hurricane Katrina.

As native of Austin, Texas Woodbury spent seven years training under world renowned coach, Randy Reese, for seven years. She continued her training swimming for Brigham Young University and was a member of their conference championship team for four years. After receiving her degree in marketing and advertising she pursued a career in the media industry, but after less than a year of retirement from her competitive career she was invited to train with the New Zealand national team in 2008. Tulane Swimming Clinic is excited to add her experience and expertise which will greatly benefit the swimmers.
