Do you need money to live? | Yahoo Answers

A lot , in general compared to other States or city's. Living in the Bay Area is expensive and being born and raised here is the reason to still be here. This place is growing so fast and given the Silicon Valley boom has brought this area to the top.
If I had to put the cost of living to a number for 1 person starting out I would say a starting income would have to be at least 60k. Beyond that as a couple you would both need this starting income to ever think about buying a place, and at that it wouldn't be a big place. This would be a good start and as you progress in life and your income grows so will the investment in a property.
Many people I know moved towards the Sacramento area before real estate became real expensive. The bottom line is if you desire the Bay Area as your life long home you need to be prepared to work in a fish bowl filled with many others that have the same goals, and be some how better then most to advance. I have seen so much failure in this area because of over extending. You need to spend and buy within your means. Things happen in life and in the event of a lay off you need money saved to live at least 6 months to get a new job. You need to keep good credit because good credit will always get you more credit.
It is impossible to know the future and if the Bay Area is what you seek then I hope some of my advice can help because I have real life lived it.

It’s like what Evelyn Beatrice Hall wrote in her book The Friends of Voltaire as a description of that philosopher’s attitude: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” I have equivalent feelings about sex work. For the most part I didn’t enjoy prostitution, but I will tirelessly defend the right to labor legally in the sex industry. Most sex workers do it for the reason that anyone does any job: they need money to live or to support their family. Punishing consenting participants in an exchange of money and pleasure does nothing but limit the economic options of someone who likely had few to begin with.
