Rita Mae Muller Hanson, formerly of Worthington, passed away early Sunday, July 12th, 2015, surrounded by her loving daughters. Born to Samuel and Frances Muller in Delaware, NY on July 16th, 1922. Rita grew up and graduated from high school in New York City at age 16. While serving as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy for two years during WWII, she eloped with a sailor, Don Hanson, on October 29th, 1943. They celebrated their marriage by going to the Ringling Bros. Circus. Rita moved to Worthington in 1944 and lived with Don's parents, Norm and Ina Hanson, while Don finished his active duty. After Don's return home and to the family businesses (Hanson's Furniture & Funeral Home), they started their family, raising four daughters (each of them her favorite). Rita was a 70 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and active on session and many committees. Rita loved the community of Worthington, participated in many organizations, and appreciated all of the advantages of living in a small town. She was a razor sharp and dedicated bridge player, and enjoyed golf league with many friends at Worthington Country Club. Rita passed on to her daughters her love of reading, overseas travel, flower gardening, Shanghai Rummy, Peach Shrubs, and shopping. Intelligent, witty and generous, were words used to describe Rita; one always knew where they stood with her. She kept a lovely home, had a keen sense of fashion, and enjoyed her role as homemaker, mother, and grandmother/Nina. Rita moved to The Meadows of Worthington in February 2010, and then to Eastwood Senior Living in Mora, MN, in September of 2012, where she was cared for by loving staff. She is survived by her daughters, "The Hanson Girls", and their husbands: Jan (Richard) Lowe, Worthington, Karen (Ken) Donahue, Berlin, WI, Lynn (John Robertson) Hanson, Ventura, CA, Robin (Don Uhlhorn) Hanson, Mora, MN, plus eleven grandchildren and currently ten great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Don, on September 22nd, 2009, her parents, and her brothers: Bill, Mark & Paul. Rita felt very blessed when 25 of her family members gathered for a reunion in Mora just twelve days before her unexpected passing. The family will hold a celebration of life for Rita at a later date. Blessed be her memory....
